Size / Volume Reduction

Shredding of metals for volume reduction can simplify material handling, minimize storage space and reduce transportation and disposal costs. SSI has built shredders to process light scrap in a metal recycling yard, or materials generated by a manufacturer, such as aluminum extrusion from a door or window manufacturer. SSI shredders have also been used to prepare metals to feed into high-speed hammermills.

Recycling / Remelting

Metals destined for recycling are often baled or briquetted to facilitate handling and reduce transportation costs. However, once material arrives at the processing facility, processors often wish to shred bales or briquettes to improve furnace feeding and the efficiency of the remelting or delacquering process. Shredding also helps to liberate trapped contamination, upgrading the quality of the metal and its value.

Precious Metal Recovery

Function

The eddy current effect appears if nonferrous conductors of electricity are exposed to a magnetic alternating field.The eddy currents in turn generate magnetic fields whose flux are opposed to the fields generating them, thus causing repulsive forces which discharge nonferrous metals out of the material flow.

Structure

The IFE eddy current metal separator consists of a belt conveyor with two tail pulleys.The driving drum on the feeding side is driven by a geared motor, the belt speed can be electronically adjusted by continuous control. An extremely strong, fast rotating permanent magnetic system is located in the head pulley. The specific geometry of the magnetic system generates a pulse like magnetic field. The number of revolutions of the magnetic field is also continuously adjustable and can thus be adapted to the individual cases. The whole machine is a modular construction on a base frame (feeder, Eddy Current Separator, splitter unit) which can be easily transported and installed. An extensively equipped control makes possible an optimum adaptation to the respective charging material, thus ensuring best separation results.

Operating principle

Circular movement in the feed area – rapid material break-up, high feed rates,even with challenging materials.

The linear movement in the central area ensures optimal contact between the material and screen mesh – efficient screening!

Elliptical movement against the direction of conveyance – improved material destratification and ”near-size“ screening.

Screen crossbeams are fitted on two frames (the external and internal frames respectively) that can be moved together. Flexible screen panels fitted onto these crossbeams are tightened and loosened alternately via the frame movements. High acceleration forces prevent the screen deck becoming blocked up or sticking.

The frame movements are generated by an eccentric drive. The special motion of both frame systems means that three different oscillatory movements are produced on the external frame.

Scalping – For scalping usually Grizzly feeders in heavy duty design are in operation.

They are used to feed crushers and mills, or as separating grates in the foundry industry.

Sizing – One of the main mechanical handling methods used for granular bulk material is screening. The type of material, the grain shape and grain size, humidity, output and screen cut size as well as a many other parameters necessitate a broad spectrum of different solutions.

Desliming-Deslurring-Dewatering – For this purpose more or less only linear vibratory screens are used today. They are in operation for recovering dense media in heavy media plants, for removing from very fine materials respectively dewatering of materials won or processed in a wet state to enable onward feeding on conveyor belts.
